CURTAIN WHISPERS

art performances behind a transparent curtain

An enclosed room with a view, a separate space  – and two human beings. No window but a transparent curtain connects or disconnects/separates them from the actual viewer. The two individuals simulate daily routines of the outside world. While they are excluded from the real world behind a curtain-wall, their actions seem odd and degenerated. Inherited habits seem twisted by their already changed and deformed behaviour patterns that now are overshadowed by repetitive or meaningless movements and their nearly silenced voice. Separated from reality the couple tries to cope and put meaning to their existence. Do they see behind the curtain? Do they even recognise that there is a beyond and a viewer? The work discusses how one’s often monotonously driven life lacks of a more insightful understanding of the here and now, getting compromised by one’s constant urge to fulfil a Western lifestyle and image in trying to reach prosperity, fame/success or at least daily comfort that is based on thoughtless consumption patterns.
