... arbeiten gemeinsam als ART IN PROCESS seit 2000 an künstlerischen Projekten, leben in Fremantle/Western Australia.

technisch gesehen:

SUEX (Sustainability & Extinction) SUEX Trailer
an installation consisting of four videos in HD in relation to four different sound compositions
Basis: aphorism in 16 sequences by the artist. The text is translated into Hebrew, Japanese and Noongar*. The text was recorded in each language, building the main sound. The four videos play simultaneously, speak to the viewer and try to get his attention in building a conversational atmosphere in confrontation to the viewer.
*Noongar - language of Indigenous Australians, southwest corner of Western Australia. Various dialects.

The project looks for a confrontation with the viewer concerning Sustainability and Environment. It aims to inspire social change related to our daily consuming pattern and to get aware of our personal footprint in context to a global situation concerning environmental conditions, which affect people (from different countries) in different ways.
In SUEX the artist sets the human being in confrontation with its surroundings, urban structures and technology in relation to nature.

"After spending many years next to people in different countries I learned to see things differently. How absurd our (Western Society) mass consumption is; how thoughtless we ruin our world and take from the natural resources, which seem available to us, non-stop. Having seen so much poverty, catastrophic illness and living circumstances, I try to make aware of such issues in my work, not to ignore them. From a certain artistic point of view my work questions: Where does sustainability start, where does it come from, how can we create it? Which aspects of reaching or protecting sustainability lead to extinction?" (bello benischauer, 2008)

bello benischauer (project, lectures, workshop, exhibition)
elisabeth m eitelberger (project, writing, organisation, exhibition)
... work together as ART IN PROCESS on art-projects since 2002, living in Fremantle, Western Australia.

Technical aspects:
The AIR will be used to create a partnership between artinprocess- Fremantle/Western Australia and subnet - Salzburg/Austria.
Artistic positioning beside mainstream / it is about the various images of society / what makes western society desirable? / ...

ART IN PROCESS general and especially about the AIR:
The artistic work, mostly audio-visual installation(s), examines relationships between human being, technology and nature/(urban settings) habitats. It discusses in which directions the world will possibly develop, which relationships/communities are about to be created in context to different perceptions of environmental sustainability.
The project in Salzburg will mainly create a socio-political debate about western image, prosperity and mass consumption. This again means and creates hidden/suppressed side issues, exploitation and global poverty - Salzburg: a case study.
Single aspects of work will address diverse kinds of ignorance, we are surrounded with; some of them we would like to respond to and reveal, giving the viewer the chance to open up, viewing things in context to a global situation.
But to think big we have to see and understand the small things first; people next to us (i.e. from different cultures, fringe groups) have to be tolerated and accepted to be seen as integral part of society - integrated as equal part of our so-called society.

Why b a c k y a r d and its metaphorical image:
Austria and Australia are countries full of "backyards", which have individual importance. It is a space to celebrate anonymity, privacy; a place that can be hidden behind the house; which cannot be seen from the front. Backyards are private spaces.
Often backyards are also neglected and forgotten areas, which you could not imagine by looking at a well-kept front. That≠s why we can easily ignore them and fill them up with "rubbish". The weeds grow tall, rusty parts of all sorts of things, ... backyards are used as personal rubbish tip, area of unwanted things, which we want to get rid off and without much effort. But those backyards are also places of discoveries.
Metaphorically we can use the term of backyard and its description to look further...Our world/countries/societies are full of such backyards in many ways.
The connection of the project to the AIR in Salzburg: ART IN PROCESS will use the time of the AIR to create a positive link to subnet and to get to know Salzburg's backyard(s).

exhibition - presentation
All documented material (writing, video, photos) produced throughout the AIR will be presented, as well as recent work by ART IN PROCESS.
The audience will be able to visit the ART IN PROCESS website under SALZBURG_backyard including photos, writing and video material presented on a Computer in an Internet-corner of the exhibition space. People will be able to discover their Salzburg through different eyes.
The AIR will build a link between subnet and ART IN PROCESS.
